Our Mediators

We are specialists in conflict resolution. We take great pride in the quality of our mediators, and we back this pride with professional training, continuing education, and many years experience. We have graduate degrees in related disciplines such as conflict studies, international relations, and psychology. And, when appropriate, we refer mediation clients to complementary professionals such as attorneys, CPAs, and therapists, who provide independent legal counsel, financial expertise, and emotional support.

Parties may request mediation sessions with either of our mediators using the direct email links below or the contact form. Mediation sessions can also be arranged with both mediators as a male-female team.

Paul R Merlyn, M.A.

Paul Merlyn completed a graduate degree in International Relations with focus on dispute resolution from Lancaster University in 1993. He has also completed advanced training in parent-teen mediation, custody mediation, and victim-offender mediation and has mediated more than 200 divorce, family, and relational disputes. In addition to his work with New Resolution, he is a mediation coach for Foothill De Anza College’s mediation certification program, a meetings facilitator for the City of San Francisco and the City of San Mateo, and a director of the Association for Dispute Resolution of Northern California. He is also an approved mediator for civil disputes by the Superior Court of San Francisco.

Sloan Norman, Ph.D.

Sloan Norman completed her doctorate in counseling psychology from the State University of New York at Albany in 1995 and has been working as a licensed psychologist with individuals, couples, and families for many years. She holds a certificate in mediation and conflict resolution from California's Foothill De Anza College. In addition to her work as a mediator, she maintains a private psycho-
therapy practice in San Francisco.
